AORC ABIRD COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

11:00 - 12:00

Teleconference Participants:  Jeff Kantor, Scott Horne, Sherman Stauffer, Laurie Moore, Claudia Duranceau, Leonard Barton

Agenda/Discussion Summary:

1.  Shredding Operations

Nakia set up a meeting with the Vehicle Recycling Partnership. Jeff pointed out that the majority of inflators end up going through the Shedding operations. Scott is opposed to this. He feels they should be removed upstream from the shredding operations. Jeff asked the AORC to consider revising our position supporting the deployment of inflators as a best management practice. All participants agreed that Single Point is a promising option but that it is moving much too slowly. Leonard will contact Laura Brandt to check for an update.

2.  AORC Web Site

As motioned above, Leonard will check with AORC about the boards support for deploying inflators in ELV.

3.  Reuse of Occupant Restraint Devices

In September, Jeff Kantor met with the AORC board and presented his position on the reuse of occupant restraint devices. The board was receptive of his proposal, but will to condone this approach due to the liability issues.

4.  Regulatory Status of PAASD

Mark Zaugg is continuing efforts on finding out each stateÕs regulatory interpretation of inflator deployment. Laurie will send Leonard the NAAHAC (North American Automotive HazMat Action Committee) attempt at obtaining the same information. This issue is ongoing.

6.  Single Point Deployment

There is no new information on Single Point Deployment. Leonard will contact Laura for an update.

7.  California Best Management Practices for Perchlorates

We joined efforts with NAAHAC and meet with the California DTSC on October 10th. The attached letters track the progress and current situation regarding the BMP for our industry.
