Occupant Ejection Protection Committee

Mission Statement - To adress issues and rulemaking concerning occupant ejection mitigation and protection in a rollover, as well as proper testing procedures.

Past Activities:
•  Glazing and Rollover committees were combined to support NHTSA and other industry activity on rollover protection
•  Communication of status of ongoing testing by NHTSA, which has shown the potential for injury and death reductions through combination of advanced window glazing and rollover protection air bags.
•  Liaised with AAM industry working group on rollover protection. Working group could not reach consensus for voluntary standard amongst members.
•  Liaised with Enhanced Protective Glass Automotive Association (EPGAA) to improve interaction and interface with the organization.

Future Items / Issues to be addressed:
•  Expand participation by AORC member companies involved in rollover systems and glazing.
•  Continue formal linkage with EPGAA technical team to achieve broader interface with glass industry

•  Monitor and support all regulatory activities and safety industry developments concerning rollover
      •  Support NHTSA’s development of a testing method for ejection mitigation and drafting of this procedure leading toward NPRM
•  Help member companies respond to common areas of concern re to-be-determined requirements arising from TREAD legislation, which has placed huge burden and responsibility on supplier community.
•  Facilitate responses to NHTSA future rulemakings on rollover protection and ejection mitigation by the AORC
