The
Air Bag/Inflator Recycling/Disposal Committee (ABIRD)
The Air Bag/Inflator Recycling/Disposal Committee,
established and functioning under the direction of the Automotive Occupant
Restraints Council, endeavors to investigate, develop and disseminate information
to support End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) activities related to automotive occupant
restraints components. These activities include the following general areas:
general product and safe handling information, environmental best practices,
disposal and metal recycling options, applicable regulatory requirements and
other pertinent useful data deemed appropriate.

Safety,
Health, and Environmental Committee
The SHEC committee provides a forum for member companies
to share non-proprietary safety, health, and environmental information associated
with the manufacture of automotive restraint systems and related components
and materials. The committee normally meets twice a year for two days. The
committee has several subcommittees. The subcommittees include; a safety subcommittee,
a health subcommittee, and an environmental subcommittee along with ad hoc
committees formed to deal with specific issues. In the interim between meetings,
specific action items are worked by subcommittee members meeting in small
groups or corresponding electronically or by phone.
