Systems Performance and Numerical Analysis Committee
Click here to download the minutes from the 2006 meeting of the SPNAC.
Mission Statement: Provide an industry focal point
where non-competitive issues in the field of Restraint System Performance
and Numerical Analysis can be collectively reviewed, industry solutions generated
and implemented.
Agreed project list currently includes:
1. Commonize OOP simulation evaluation
and coordinate software development
2. Modeling of new ATD’s (ie.THOR
LX) – especially the neck
3. Standardize Numerical Methods and Validation
levels
4. Human Body Modeling – initial
specification development
Recent
Accomplishments or Completed Projects:
• Completed the evaluation of OOP simulation capability working with
TNO using MADYMO as a tool. Project scope & deliverables identified by
committee and project kicked off in July 2004. Committee members assigned
and performed several technical tasks such as providing hardware for testing,
performing testing, etc at several of the member company facilities. Project
manager assigned to track all the milestones & deliverables. Periodic
technical gate reviews conducted to provide feedback on the status of the
project.
Some of the key deliverables were:
1. Report of the simulation results of OOP modeling
for NHTSA 1 & 2 positions
for six yr old in a Passenger OOP environment.
2. Comparison of all the modeling results with
test data.
3. Capturing the lessons learned in the modeling
techniques used in this project.
4. Validated models for static test, pendulum
test and NHTSA position 1 & 2 tests.
5. Final report completed in February 2005.
Next steps:
• If future code enhancements are needed to improve
the model correlation, TNO will provide AORC with a list of all enhancements
and their respective timing for implementation.
• Potential joint publication of results & discussion
between AORC and TNO as a technical paper in appropriate forums.
